I find it funny that this word has two definitions-a human one and a computer one. From Wikipedia– Multitasking may refer to any of the following:
Computer multitasking – the apparent simultaneous performance of two or more tasks by a computer’s central processing unit
Media multitasking could involve using a computer, mp3, or any other form of media in conjunction with one another.
Human multitasking – The ability of a person to perform more than one task at the same time
Research says it is NOT more efficient and does NOT work well for humans!
This week the focus is on doing one thing at a time.
So in an effort to “uni-task”…
Monday-No cell phone calls while driving. Turn the sound off to avoid the temptation of answering or talking on the phone while driving.
Tuesday-Set a timer for 15-30 minutes and focus on doing one task. Cleaning your house, returning emails, writing in your journal. Just one task. Notice how much you accomplish with focused effort!
Wednesday-Eat dinner in peace and quiet. Savor the taste, feel and smell of the food your are eating to nourish your body. No other sounds except you chewing (and maybe saying mmm..)
Thursday-When exercising today leave the music on silent. Instead focus on what you are doing-the muscle you are working, your breath. Your workouts will be more productive and results will appear sooner!
Friday-Listen. Don’t think about what you are going to say next, what you are going to do next. You have two ears. Use them more than your mouth. Make others feel important, valued and loved just by listening to them.
“There is enough time for everything in the course of a day if you do but one thing at once; but there is not time enough in the year if you will do two things at a time.” — Lord Chesterfield
