Word of the Week-Compare

Compare-to examine the character or qualities of especially in order to discover resemblances or differences.
A word that seems harmless enough. However,it can be the cause of major damage if comparing one’s life, looks, wealth or anything else to others. You are in this race for you, only you.

Monday-listen to your self talk today. Do you find you are comparing yourself to others? Pay attention today to the conversation going on inside of your head.

Tuesday-write down 10 of the things in your life that cause you discontentment. Study each one honestly and figure out where this discontentment comes from. Envy, jealousy, trying to be someone else? Comparing yourself to others?

Wednesday-it’s funny, we are usually comparing ourselves to others who seemingly have more (or better, thinner, etc). What about those less fortunate than us? Take a bit to compare yourself to them. Feeling pretty lucky, huh? Don’t go to far with this one-comparing your strengths to someone else’s weaknesses and vice versa will do nothing positive for anyone.

Thursday- “Look at the big picture. The person you are comparing yourself to may have one thing you envy, but their overall life may be worse off than yours. That person may also be looking at you and envying your life and what you have. Yes, remember your “what you have” list, others have stock in that list too because even if you can’t see what’s fantastic about you, others can.” (I found this at Everyday Tweet)

Friday-Remember today, be yourself. Wonderfully, unique and fabulous you. You are like no one else, no one else is like you. Relish in yourself and STOP the comparison game!!

Envy is ever joined with the comparing of a man’s self; and where there is no comparison, no envy.” -Francis Bacon, Sr.

“Love is the total absence of fear. Love asks no questions. Its natural state is one of extension and expansion, not comparison and measurement.”-Gerald Jampolsky
