Below is the information included in the invite letter for IL Action Day sent to us from the Greater IL Chapter. The Greater IL Chapter coordinates the logistics and leads in developing the legislative issues and the Gateway Area Chapter assists in a variety of different ways including inviting individuals from our Chapter area to attend IL MS Action Day. The Criteria & Responsibilities document attached outlines different ways individuals who attend IL Action Day can also be involved with public policy issues – describes options available – so please don’t get overwhelmed by the details of this document. The MS Action Day volunteer application form provides more information on travel, hotel. If somone is interested in attending, I would ask that they contact me first and I can share more details about the day before they complete the application. My contact information is below. Deadline to register is Tuesday, February 17. Suzanne
It is good to know that when visiting the Capitol that it can be a long day and individuals will be walking longer distances from one office to the other. If someone prefers, they can also reserve a scooter. Our chapter helps to cover the cost of hotel/meals.
Invitation sent to previous attendees:
On Tuesday, March 24 and Wednesday, March 25, MS Activist volunteers and staff will once again be in Springfield, Illinois, for MS Action Day 2015. This annual event will launch the National MS Society, Greater Illinois and Gateway Area chapters’ statewide advocacy efforts for the entire year by allowing us to meet face-to-face with state legislators to discuss issues of importance to individuals with MS and their families. If someone plans to attend, e have a limited number of spaces available and ask that you please return the attached form by Tuesday, February 17 (PLEASE CONTACT SUZANNE CARRON FIRST BEFORE COMPLETING THE FORM).
This year, we will once again be offering Virtual MS Action Day. We realize a journey to Springfield can be challenging, both physically and financially. As an alternative to an in-person visit to Springfield the Society has created Virtual MS Action Day. By participating in Virtual MS Action Day anyone can play a role in our very important advocacy efforts from the comfort of their own home or office. Through this virtual event, MS activists who cannot be with us in Springfield will have the opportunity to contact state legislators via phone, email, Facebook and Twitter. We will also host educational teleconferences on the issues we’ll be championing in 2015. We will provide full details about Virtual MS Action Day and the issue teleconferences in the coming weeks.
Although MS Action Day sets the stage for our annual statewide advocacy efforts, it is the ongoing work of MS activists and volunteers like you that allow us to move steadily forward toward a world free of MS. We gratefully acknowledge your commitment. You can learn about more ways to get involved throughout the year by visiting MSIllinois.org and clicking on “Take Action.”
